"He's Still Got It" – Ronaldo Dismisses Messi Walking Criticism, Tips Argentina for 2026 World Cup Success

"He's Still Got It" – Ronaldo Dismisses Messi Walking Criticism, Tips Argentina for 2026 World Cup Success

Brazilian football icon Ronaldo has hit back at critics who claim Lionel Messi walks too much on the pitch, insisting the Inter Miami star remains one of the game’s most dangerous players — and a key asset for Argentina heading into the 2026 World Cup.

What Happened?

Messi, who famously led Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar 2022, continues to defy his age with standout performances in Major League Soccer. Now 38, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has been in electric form for Inter Miami, consistently finding the net and proving he can still dominate games at the highest level.

The Big Picture

Despite questions over his work rate, particularly his tendency to walk during matches, Messi has silenced doubters with his effectiveness and intelligence on the ball. His presence is still considered a game-changer both in MLS and on the international stage.

What Ronaldo Said

Two-time World Cup champion Ronaldo Nazário believes Messi will arrive at the 2026 World Cup — to be held in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico — in peak condition.

“Having Leo is a huge advantage over the rest of us normal people in the world," Ronaldo told DSports. “I see him in great shape, and I think he’ll arrive at the World Cup in good form too.”

Addressing claims that Messi’s influence is waning as he ages, Ronaldo said:

“I was watching Messi’s games at the Club World Cup — he’s still got it. Every time he touches the ball, something happens. He reads the game brilliantly, always knows what to do. And if he loses possession, he tracks back — sometimes sprinting 30 or 40 meters. He still contributes defensively, too.”

Did You Know?

Argentina have already qualified for the 2026 World Cup, and with manager Lionel Scaloni at the helm, they are considered among the early favorites. Ronaldo praised the Albiceleste for their team unity and tactical intelligence:

“Scaloni has built a team with commitment and intensity. They support each other, they’re smart, and they know how to suffer through difficult moments.”

What’s Next for Argentina?

With qualification secured, Argentina can afford to rest key players during the final rounds of the CONMEBOL qualifiers. Meanwhile, Messi will look to maintain his form with Inter Miami, who face FC Cincinnati next in MLS action on July 17.
