Luka Modric Joins AC Milan on Free Transfer After Iconic Real Madrid Career

Luka Modric has officially signed with AC Milan, joining the Italian giants on a free transfer after an illustrious 13-year career at Real Madrid. The Croatian midfielder, who turns 39 this year, played his final game for the Spanish club during their 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final.
Modric, a Ballon d’Or winner, arrived at the Santiago Bernabéu in 2012 from Tottenham Hotspur and quickly became one of the most influential midfielders of his generation. In May, it was confirmed he would depart the Spanish capital, and now he has sealed a move to the San Siro.
He has signed a one-year deal with Milan that includes the option to extend for an additional season. Sharing his excitement on Instagram, Modric posted:
"Ciao everybody, I just landed in Milan. Very happy to be here, to start a new chapter in my career. A big hug to everyone."
Modric leaves Madrid with an incredible legacy, having won six UEFA Champions League titles, four La Liga trophies, five FIFA Club World Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, and two Copa del Rey titles.

His final appearance for Los Blancos came in that Club World Cup defeat to PSG, managed by former Madrid teammate Xabi Alonso.
The Croatian legend departs having played 597 matches for Real Madrid, scoring 43 goals and providing countless moments of brilliance.
In a statement, AC Milan said:
"AC Milan is delighted to announce that Luka Modric has signed a contract with the club until 30 June 2026, with an option to extend until 30 June 2027."
On social media, the club added: "La Scala del Calcio has a new maestro," and hailed the midfielder as a "legend."
Modric will wear the No. 14 shirt and is expected to make his Serie A debut for Milan against Cremonese on August 23. After dominating in Spain, he now looks to add silverware in Italy and write a new chapter in an already storied career.
